The problem is that the two computers will now not connect to each other and i can’t use the printer which is connected to the other computer. This is a problem as we both need to print and don’t want to have to move over the wires from comp to comp. Also file shareing is not working so i cant even send to the other computer and print it that way.

As an initial recommendation, follow these steps to run the Windows Home group troubleshooter and check if it helps:. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help.

I have an iMac with two recently updated Windows 10 laptops of a certain vintage which all networked happily before Windows Leaving them to sort themselves did not work but after a number of ‘Power offs’ and cold starts for all three – in no particular order they have now decided to talk to each other.

Updates might instal automatically but some need a restart which is not necessarily automatic. For me there was no Firewall problem – Norton has been unaffected by W There are lots to review! What helped me set up my network was to shutdown every computer on the network and then turn on the administrator computer and then open HomeGroup. I believe the problem that exists when you have all the computers turned on when trying to set it up is that each computer is naturally fighting for control over the network, each thinking that it is the administrator; so just have one computer turned on after all have been shut down, then after the initial set up has been made turn on the other computers that are to be setup on the HomeGroup and follow the prompts.

Many thanks for your response. The other MSW7 tower computer was powered off at the time of the laptop upgrade. In fact I had attempted, and failed, to upgrade the tower before the laptop as it was the HomeGroup manager HomeGroup had been set up on it with the laptop being added and, for security reasons as it never leaves the building, I would have preferred that it remain so.

Now the tower has problems getting onto the internet when the laptop is off, asleep or out of the building — I suspect that W10 laptop manages the connection in some way as the iPad can get on when the W7 tower reports that there is no internet and the hub looks perfectly fine but I am not going to bother to find out. However there is only so long that one can stay with an OS that ceases support although I believe that, with a good internet security package, old OS can live on for several years beyond end of support.
